Softspace #20, 2019
We first encountered Softspace #20 not just as a textile work, but as a quiet spatial experience, one that hovers gently between presence and absence, material and metaphor.
In this piece, Marie Schumann continues her exploration of weaving as a language, not just of structure, but of connection. Crafted from industrial PET and Elirex, the work floats with surprising softness, suspended on a metal rod like a breath made visible. It bends light, shifts gently with air, and yet remains anchored, rooted in a centuries-old technique reimagined through a contemporary lens.
What makes Softspace #24 so compelling is its tension, between the handmade and the engineered, the poetic and the precise. It reminds us that softness can hold strength, and that the systems we live in, woven, layered, binary, are not fixed, but alive.
A meditation in form. A space to enter, quietly.

CURATOR´S NOTE
Softspace #20 drew us in with its quiet clarity. Marie Schumann creates not just an object but an atmosphere, where material speaks softly yet with precision.
The work balances industrial and organic, weaving and suspension, asking us to slow down and feel how space can hold emotion. We are moved by how she turns process into presence. Her language of textiles becomes a way to think through connection, structure, and care. For us at Collect Noir, this piece is not only seen, it is sensed.
