Textus #129, Theology Room
SeungHoon Park’s work begins where most photography ends—after the image is taken, when memory begins to shift and meaning starts to unravel.
In Textus #129, Theology Room, he doesn’t just document. He reconstructs. Driven by a desire to capture not just what is seen, but what is felt and remembered, Park cuts, weaves, and layers fragments of 16mm film into a single, tactile composition.
Each strip is a moment, sliced from time, decontextualized, and reassembled into something new. The result is neither photograph nor collage, but a visual textile, a meditation on memory, loss, and the quiet work of re-making.
The title Textus refers to the Latin root of “text” and “textile” to weave. And that is what Park does: he weaves emotion into image, turning film into thread, and recollection into form.
What makes this work so unique is not just the process, but the feeling it holds— a stillness that comes from something deeply personal, made universal through touch, patience, and light.

“I use positive 16mm film that I cut and load in a large format camera. When processed the result is a mosaic of films, like a detailed patchwork composed of an inextricable labyrinth where the eye can get lost.”

CURATOR´S NOTE
SeungHoon Park’s Textus series occupies a rare space in contemporary photography—where image becomes material, and memory is reconstructed through process. His practice merges the precision of analog film with the intimacy of handcraft, weaving together 16mm film strips to create large-scale, tactile compositions that are both visual and sculptural. What makes Park’s work so compelling is the way he redefines photography—not as documentation, but as a form of visual archaeology. Each piece carries fragments of time, layered into a quiet meditation on presence, loss, and transformation. To collect SeungHoon Park’s work is to invest in a practice that challenges how we perceive image, memory, and material. His pieces are not just to be viewed—they are to be studied, felt, and lived with. They speak to the emotional complexity of remembering and the beauty of what remains. In a world driven by speed and surface, Park offers something rare: depth, slowness, and a handmade visual language that continues to unfold over time.
