Measured Without Proof, 2019
There are ideas we carry that resist being named. Truths we feel deeply, but cannot explain. Measured Without Proof gives form to that quiet space; where intuition speaks louder than certainty.
In this sculpture, Sarah Trigg explores the tension between the visible and the invisible, between what can be measured and what simply is. Crafted in epoxy clay, the form feels grounded yet abstract; an object that holds weight, yet seems to reach beyond itself.
Faint traces of violet acrylic hint at earlier processes, deliberately transferred from past works. This interest in residual marks, developed during the making of Trigg’s book on artists’ practices; anchors the piece in lived, layered time.
From certain angles, its shifting form evokes the motion of Duchamp’s Nude Descending a Staircase, inviting viewers into a quiet rhythm of unfolding perspectives. A work to sit with, to return to; not to solve, but to sense anew each time.

"Measured Without Proof reflects the idea that art can express truths we sense but cannot measure with current science. It doesn’t promote alternative facts, but acknowledges the limits of scientific methods to capture human experience fully. The artist’s role is to give form to the invisible, knowing the result is only an approximation—a feeling or impression rather than the thing itself. Even sculpture, grounded in physical reality, can’t fully embody these intangible truths."

CURATOR´S NOTE
Measured Without Proof is a work that dwells in the in-between—between what we know and what we only sense, between matter and meaning. Sarah Trigg’s sculpture does not attempt to define or explain; instead, it offers a form that holds space for uncertainty. Solid in presence yet elusive in interpretation, it invites the viewer into a quiet tension—where the tangible hints at the immaterial, and the unsaid carries weight. We are drawn to how the work resists finality. It doesn’t seek to resolve, but to remain open— asking us to consider that some truths are not proven, but felt. A contemplative piece that renders the invisible quietly visible.
