Laichkraut, Trubesloh, 15.5.2003/2015
Laichkraut, Trubesloh, 15.5.2003/2015 by Simone Kappeler captures a suspended moment beneath still water; where time bends, light scatters, and nature composes itself into quiet abstraction.
Pink leaves drift like brushstrokes over the lakebed, their presence at once delicate and insistent. Kappeler’s lens finds poetry in sediment and shadow, inviting us to look longer, more slowly. Is this a scene of decay or bloom? Of motion or stillness?
Using the lush depth of Cibachrome, Kappeler doesn’t document so much as distill: color becomes memory, surface becomes emotion. This is nature not as landscape, but as feeling.

Trained in both literature and photography, Kappeler blends documentary and dreamlike elements, often capturing the fleeting and the ephemeral with a distinct sensibility for light, color, and atmosphere. Her work spans decades and formats, from Polaroids to large-scale Cibachromes, offering a contemplative gaze into landscapes, interiors, and the overlooked moments of everyday life. She lives and works in Zurich.
CURATOR´S NOTE
There is a stillness to Laichkraut, Trubesloh, a silence that feels almost sacred. Simone Kappeler captures not just a scene, but a pause, an underwater breath held in light and shadow. Nothing moves, yet everything stirs: leaves hover, threads drift, the silt remembers.
This is a photograph that resists immediacy. It doesn’t unfold in a glance but lingers just beneath the surface. Kappeler invites us into that in-between space, between clarity and blur, presence and trace. What you see may shift with each return.
Like much of her work, this piece is less a record than a reverie. It asks nothing but your quiet attention, and rewards it with quiet transformation.
