"My practice emerges from the emotional terrain of memory, displacement, and loss. I work through biomorphic abstraction to give form to intuitive gestures and subconscious states. Rooted in the color and rhythm of my Caribbean upbringing, my inspiration comes from internal landscapes and the strange familiarity of shapes that feel alive yet unrecognizable. I construct suspended environments where the luminous and the dark coexist, inviting viewers into spaces where life can be felt without being named."

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Katherine Michelle Svoboda Malberg (1999, Maracaibo, Venezuela), known artistically as SVOBODA, is an introspective and sensitive multidisciplinary artist working across painting, installation, and moving image.

Educated at Chavón School of Design in the Dominican Republic and lED Barcelona, her practice merges technical precision with an emotional, inward-looking visual language.

Her work emerges from the psychological landscapes of loss, displacement, and fragmented identity. Through acrylic, oil, and video, SVOBODA constructs biomorphic and abstract environments shaped by an oniric and ethereal atmosphere. Organic, fluid forms, seemingly alive yet ungraspable, appear as remnants of memory seeking embodiment, traces of an inner universe made visible. Surrealism and biomorphism serve as conceptual frameworks through which she explores mystery, vitality, and the strange familiarity of emotions that resist verbal definition. Her process is both obsessive and technical, grounded in repetition, chromatic discipline, and the slow construction of floating volumes. Soft gradations, vivid contrasts, and suspended compositions come together to create visual ecosystems where intimacy and vastness coexist. In these worlds, clarity and shadow intertwine, offering viewers an emotional immersion rather than a narrative. The works operate as atmospheric containers, spaces where they function as visual ecosystems, asking viewers to experience rather than decode.

CURATOR´S NOTE

What we love about The Black Drop is its quiet intensity. Through layers of acrylic and aerograph, Katherine Michelle Svoboda Malberg creates a surface that feels suspended, shifting subtly with light and distance.

The work invites slow looking. It doesn’t demand attention, it reveals itself gradually, leaving a calm, lasting impression.
