Where Memory Softens, 2025
Where Memory Softens, 2025 is a poetic meditation on tenderness, erosion, and the gentle passage of time. Through mixed media on canvas, Amélie Ducommun creates a richly layered surface where forms blur and edges dissolve, suggesting moments once sharp now eased by distance and reflection. The composition invites an emotional closeness, unfolding slowly and with quiet restraint.
Ducommun’s material language allows textures to accumulate and recede, echoing the way memory shifts, softening, reshaping, and lingering in unexpected ways. Subtle gestures and tonal variations create a sense of depth and stillness, offering a contemplative space where experience settles rather than fades. Where Memory Softens encourages slow looking and intimate engagement, resonating with a sense of calm, vulnerability, and quiet endurance.

"The origin of my work lies mainly in a questioning of the memory of places, the perception and balance of places as they are transformed by time, water, and emotion"
